Two horsemen ride south from Russia’s capitals along a road still wild and rough, and the story carries them to the Caucasus, where Circassian mountaineers defend their valleys and plateaus against Russian expansion. Love, divided loyalties and warfare play out among high villages, waterfalls and precipices in a full three-volume romance.
An early adult novel by Kingston, later famous for boys’ sea stories, with real sympathy for the Circassian cause. Download the free EPUB.
