Jack Blair leaves an office stool after a scrimmage with his employer and enlists in the 17th Lancers, the Death or Glory Boys. Barrack-room squabbles and Sergeant Linham’s drill prepare him for the Crimea, where the story follows the army through the blunders of its generals to Balaclava.
A boys’ adventure with a foreword by a real survivor of the Light Brigade and a frank view of the war’s mismanagement. Download the free EPUB.
