Written for his daughter Gillian, Farnol’s romance of chivalry is told in fyttes, mixing rhymed verse with prose. A great duke goes out into the world in humble disguise, and his road leads to the greenwood, an outlaw called Robin, the demon-haunted wood beside Thraxby Waste, and a proud lady whose love he must win.
