Judah Ben-Hur, a young prince of Jerusalem, is betrayed by his boyhood friend Messala and sent to the galleys, while his mother and sister vanish. His long road back runs through a sea battle, adoption by a Roman, the great chariot race at Antioch, and repeated meetings with the life of Jesus of Nazareth.
