Nathaniel Hodges stayed in London through the Great Plague of 1665, visiting the sick daily while many physicians fled, and later wrote this account of what he saw: how the outbreak began and spread, its signs and stages, and the remedies he tried. John Quincy’s English translation appeared in 1720, when plague at Marseilles revived old fears.
