Count O. recounts the adventure of a reserved German prince visiting Venice, who is approached by a masked Armenian with an uncanny prophecy and then drawn into a séance where a Sicilian conjurer raises a ghost. A second book, told in letters, follows the prince into gambling, freethinking and a secret society’s web. The volume adds Schiller’s short tale ‘The Sport of Destiny’.
Schiller’s only novel, left unfinished, a founding work of the German Gothic. Download the free EPUB.
