Pierre Soret walks London’s darkest streets on moonless nights so that no one will look into his face. His dreadful secret is bound up with a golden image alive with evil and a fire that burns with the cold of outer space, and with the cult priestess Moonere, whose grip on a young woman named Ruth must be broken.
