A struggling writer takes a room in a shabby Manhattan brownstone and discovers that the tenant above him, the brilliant Dr. Muñoz, keeps his apartment at a strangely icy temperature. The two become friends, but the doctor’s dependence on his cooling machinery grows ever more desperate during a hot summer, and the narrator is left to explain why a draught of cold air still makes him shudder.
A compact, carefully built horror story that shows Lovecraft working in an urban, scientific mode. Download the free EPUB.
