A shepherd’s daughter from Domrémy hears a divine call and rides out to rescue the weak King Charles VII and a France half conquered by the English and Burgundians. Schiller’s Joan is invincible as long as she keeps her vow to feel no earthly love, and the drama turns on what happens when she meets an English knight on the battlefield.
Schiller’s romantic tragedy of 1801, freely reimagining Joan’s story, in Anna Swanwick’s English verse. Download the free EPUB.
