A young man alone in a Paris boarding house discovers a chink in the wall of his room and begins to watch the occupants next door. Lovers, a dying man, a woman and a child pass before him, and what he sees of desire, fear and mortality becomes a meditation on the solitude of every human being. It deals frankly with sexuality.
