Louis Lambert, the only child of a tanner at Montoire, devours the Bible and every book he can find, and is sent to the college at Vendôme, where the narrator becomes his only friend. There his precocious genius, mystical reading and theory of the will set him apart, and later his love for a young woman brings his inner life to a crisis.
One of Balzac’s philosophical studies, a strange, partly autobiographical portrait of visionary intellect. Download the free EPUB.
