The aged Abbé Constantin dreads the sale of the château of Longueval, until the new owners prove to be two wealthy and warm-hearted American sisters, Mrs. Scott and Bettina Percival. Their charity, little dinners and good humour transform the parish, and Bettina’s attention turns to the abbé’s godson, a young artillery officer named Jean Reynaud.
A gentle French comedy of manners and one of the great popular successes of the 1880s. Download the free EPUB.
