Composed in Iceland in the early fourteenth century, the saga begins with Grettir’s Norwegian forebears and their flight west after the battle of Hafrsfjord. Its hero is strong, quarrelsome and unlucky: he wrestles the revenant Glam, is outlawed for a killing, and survives years of pursuit before his last stand on the island of Drangey.
Among the finest of the Icelandic sagas, with ghosts, feuds and a hero as human as he is formidable. Download the free EPUB.
