Behind the Venetian blinds of a semi-detached house in Sidon, a northern river town, Henry and Esther Mesurier reach open war with their father’s narrow rule. The novel follows their first loves, Esther’s attachment to the bold Mike Laflin, Henry’s poems for Angel, and the slow breaking up of home as each reaches for a larger life.
A tender, rueful novel of youth from a leading figure of the 1890s literary scene. Download the free EPUB.
