Anna Estcourt, twenty-five, pretty and bored with dependence on her brother’s rich and outspoken wife, is left an estate in Germany by an uncle. She resolves to make it a home for distressed gentlewomen, and the ladies who come, a haughty baroness and Frau von Treumann among them, teach her that charity is far more complicated than she supposed.
A witty, clear-eyed comedy of good intentions from the author of Elizabeth and Her German Garden. Download the free EPUB.
