Mr. Preemby, a mild retired laundryman and recent widower, attends a séance and becomes convinced he is the reincarnation of Sargon of ancient Mesopotamia, destined to rule the world. His modern, sharp-tongued daughter Christina Alberta, with her Bohemian friends in 1920s London, must decide what to do about a father whose delusion is changing him.
Wells at his most humane, mixing comedy, psychology and social criticism in a story about madness and liberation. Download the free EPUB.
