On Christmas Eve just after the war, Aaron Sisson, a checkweighman in a Midlands colliery town and an accomplished flautist, goes out to buy candles and does not come home. He drifts into bohemian London, plays in an opera orchestra, falls in with the writer Rawdon Lilly, and travels on to Novara and Florence in search of freedom.
A restless post-war novel in which Lawrence works through his ideas about marriage, friendship and power. Download the free EPUB.
