Alvin Benson, a Wall Street broker with many enemies, is found shot in his Manhattan house, and District Attorney Markham invites his friend Philo Vance to come along. Vance, an art collector of drawling affectation, dismisses fingerprints and alibis in favour of reading the character behind the crime, while a lady’s handbag and a crowd of suspects muddy the police case.
The first Philo Vance novel and a landmark of the American Golden Age puzzle mystery, for fans of the fair-play whodunit. Download the free EPUB.
