Herman Mudgett, known as H. H. Holmes, wrote this account in Philadelphia’s Moyamensing Prison while awaiting trial, against his lawyers’ advice. He denies the murders laid to him, explains away the disappearances one by one, and adds his prison diary. Every claim should be read as the defence of a man later convicted of the murder of his associate Benjamin Pitezel and hanged in 1896.
A chilling primary document for students of true crime, showing a notorious killer’s own attempt to manage his story. Download the free EPUB.
