Roland Bleke, a shy young clerk, wins a sweepstake and then another fortune, and finds that money only attracts people who want to spend it for him. In six linked episodes he is pursued by his landlady’s daughter, a financial Napoleon, a theatrical venture, a comic weekly, an exiled monarch and a hired past. The stories first appeared in magazines in 1914 and 1916.
Early, lesser-known Wodehouse, written with C. H. Bovill, and full of the comic invention that came later. Download the free EPUB.
