Old Martin Chuzzlewit’s fortune draws a swarm of grasping relations, led by the oily architect Mr Pecksniff and his daughters. His grandson and namesake, cast off for choosing to marry for love, sails with the cheerful Mark Tapley to seek his fortune in an America of swindles and swamps, while at home the nurse Sairey Gamp holds forth on Mrs Harris.
Dickens’s comic anatomy of selfishness, with Pecksniff and Mrs Gamp among his greatest creations. Download the free EPUB.
