A child taken captive and renamed Timid Hare is brought before the chief and sent to serve the beautiful daughter of Bent Horn. Through the captive’s eyes young readers follow life in a Dakota village of the buffalo days: hard work and new friendships, a mischief-maker, a dog feast and festival, moving day, a long journey and the medicine man.
A short story of Plains life for children, written in 1900s style; its picture of the Dakota is of its era. Download the free EPUB.
