Gilbert retells his own comic opera in prose for young readers: the captain’s daughter Josephine loves the humble sailor Ralph, the First Lord of the Admiralty wants to marry her, and Dick Deadeye skulks about the ship. Josephine’s well-practised shriek and Ralph’s flung-away pistol show how much fun Gilbert has with his own plot, and the songs appear with Sullivan’s music.
A delightful introduction to Gilbert and Sullivan for children, with Alice B. Woodward’s pictures. Download the free EPUB.
