A Christmas party of cousins is trapped by a blizzard in a big country house, and to pass the time their grandmother, at her spinning-wheel, begins to tell stories. Tales of brave girls, a Native American boy called Onawandah, a ghost at a girls’ school, a catamount and the little house in the garden follow, one each evening.
