Prissy, Hugh John and their small brother Sir Toady Lion live on a Scottish estate, and Hugh John, who styles himself General Napoleon Smith, wages ceaseless campaigns against neighbours, servants and rival children. Their battles, sieges and treaties, a war with the spirited Cissy and her household are recorded in a mock-heroic history declared unfit for too-good boys.
