On Christmas Eve a grandmother sits by the fire with her eight grandchildren, four girls and four boys, in a bedroom with two great beds, and what comes down the chimney turns the evening into a small adventure. The text is arranged so that children can read it as a story, with notes on characters, costumes, scenery and simple effects.
