Gwethyn suspects something is afoot at home, and soon she is packed off to a new school, where she gets into a scrape, shakes down among the other girls, adopts a school mascot and joins the Mad Hatters. It is the First World War, and the girls, unsatisfied with knitting for the troops, look for real sacrifices to make.
A lively example of the English girls’ school story by the writer who did most to create it. Download the free EPUB.
