Brought from India by her adoring father, eight-year-old Sara Crewe is the show pupil of Miss Minchin’s Select Seminary for Young Ladies. When her father’s fortune collapses, Miss Minchin turns her into an unpaid drudge sleeping in the attic, and Sara survives by imagining herself a princess and watching the Large Family across the square.
Burnett’s 1888 original, which she later expanded into A Little Princess, short enough to read in an evening. Download the free EPUB.
