After her mother’s death, Philippa Hunter, called Flip, is left by her artist father at a girls’ boarding school near Lake Geneva. Shy and miserable among the other girls, she escapes on walks and meets Paul, a French boy with a mysterious past from the war, and slowly finds her courage, her friends and her own talent.
