Andrew Lang invented this story to fit Richard Doyle’s celebrated fairy pictures. A careless royal promise leaves a princess known only as Nobody in the power of the fairy folk, and the quest to win her back leads through Mushroom Land, where the elves play until midnight and sleep in the boughs of the trees.
