These tales from Iceland bring giants, trolls, stepmothers and enchanted princes, but as the editor notes, it is usually the princess or the peasant girl who performs the brave deeds. Here are Helga, Ingebjörg, Laughing Ingibjörg, Lineik and Laufey, the giantess with her granite boat, and Hans, whose clever cat kills a dragon.
Folk tales with a northern chill and unusually resourceful heroines, softened for young readers. Download the free EPUB.
