Cyril Shenstone, the fatherless son of a ruined Royalist, makes his way in London under Charles II. He works for a merchant, catches a thief, is kidnapped and sent to sea, fights the Dutch in the naval battles of the 1660s, and returns to see the city ravaged by plague and then consumed by the Great Fire, where he helps rescue those trapped.
Henty’s lively picture of Restoration London, a fine way into one of the most dramatic decades in English history. Download the free EPUB.
