Tony has been dragged around the countryside by Rudolph, a lazy and dishonest tramp who lives by petty theft. When Rudolph plans a burglary at a farmhouse, Tony foils it and ties up the tramp himself, then sets out to make his own way, a road that leads to New York’s grand hotels and a secret about his birth.
