Tom Slade, the one-time bully of Barrel Alley who now works in the Temple Camp office, takes a job aboard a troopship bound for France. Below decks he befriends an Alsatian nicknamed Frenchy, spots a strange light in the hold, and stumbles on a plot that lands him, of all people, under arrest in the guardhouse.
