Penrod Schofield and Sam Williams fight imaginary cavalry wars in the back yard, found a secret society called the In-or-In, rescue a cat from the river, put up with the model boy Georgie Bassett and get into trouble with almost every adult on the street. Tarkington follows them through a year of a small Midwestern city around 1915, with a sharp eye for how boys think.
Funny and observant, this sequel to Penrod keeps the period’s attitudes to race but remains a comic classic. Download the free EPUB.
