Ned Fletcher, a waif found on the prairie, grows up at Fort Riley and becomes a bugler in Custer’s Seventh Cavalry. Through his eyes the book follows ten years of campaigns on the Kansas, Nebraska and Dakota plains, with Satanta, Wild Bill Hickok and Custer himself, up to the fatal summer of 1876.
Historical adventure for young readers that treats the Plains wars as a winning of the West for white settlers, as its 1913 subtitle says. Download the free EPUB.
