On the Indiana frontier, where wildcats are almost as big as cows and the woods are full of bears, young Balser Brent earns his first gun, gets lost in the forest, faces the One-Eared Bear, joins a wolf hunt and fetches fire from a neighbour’s hearth. Illustrations by A. B. Frost accompany the adventures.
A favourite pioneer story by the author of When Knighthood Was in Flower, still a fine read-aloud. Download the free EPUB.
