In the title story Heraclius Margaritis, a poor young Greek singer and composer giving lessons in Bayswater to support his Italian wife Tina and their two children, takes his music into the world of Mayfair. Around it Maurice Baring sets a ghost story, a cricket match at a private school, a Chinese flute legend, a luncheon party, a fête galante and an eyewitness parody of the murder of Edward II.
Elegant, ironic short fiction from a master of the Edwardian sketch, for readers of Saki and Max Beerbohm. Download the free EPUB.
