A young master struggles with a brand-new horn and nine couple of unruly hounds, Fanny Fitz gambles, a Connemara mare and a grand filly change hands, and a bagman’s pony causes trouble. These sketches of hunting, horse-dealing and country society in the west of Ireland are told with the same ear for talk as the authors’ Irish R.M. stories.
