A small anthology of love poems issued by William Jaggard in 1599 with Shakespeare’s name on the title page. Only a few pieces are certainly his: early versions of two sonnets, including ‘When my love swears that she is made of truth’, and verses from Love’s Labour’s Lost. The rest, among them lyrics on Venus and Adonis, are by other hands or unknown.
A fascinating puzzle of Elizabethan publishing, and a pocketful of fine lyrics in its own right. Download the free EPUB.
