Recently widowed and short of money, the charming Lady Susan Vernon descends on her brother-in-law’s house at Churchhill, where she sets out to captivate her sister-in-law’s young brother Reginald while forcing her own daughter toward a rich fool. Letters between the schemer, her confidante and her alarmed relations reveal each move.
Written early and published long after her death, it shows Austen’s wit at its sharpest. Download the free EPUB.
