Abandoned as a baby and raised among the street boys of London, Jack becomes a skilled pickpocket before he is kidnapped and sold as a servant in Virginia. There he works his way up to overseer and planter, and later wanders through Europe, unhappy marriages and Jacobite intrigue. This edition also includes Defoe’s satires The True-Born Englishman and The Shortest Way with the Dissenters.
A vigorous picaresque from the author of Robinson Crusoe, whose views of colonial servitude belong frankly to 1722. Download the free EPUB.
