Born Mary Pickard in Boston, she grew up through schooling at Hingham, early visits to England and the loss of her mother, and married the Unitarian minister Henry Ware, Jr. Drawing heavily on her letters, Hall follows her through a husband’s long illness, a journey abroad, and a life of service among family and neighbours.
