Oliver Wendell Holmes writes the life of his friend John Lothrop Motley: his Boston boyhood, student years in Germany, his triumph with The Rise of the Dutch Republic and his service as American minister in Vienna and London. Holmes defends him warmly against the political slights that ended his diplomatic career.
An affectionate portrait of a great American historian by one of Boston’s finest writers. Download the free EPUB.
