Hutton follows Boccaccio from his youth in Angevin Naples, where he fell in love and began to write, to his life in Florence as poet, scholar and envoy, and his friendship with Petrarch. The study quotes generously from the Italian works and sets the Decameron within the life and the plague-stricken century that produced it.
A substantial English life of one of the founders of Italian prose, for readers of Dante, Petrarch and Chaucer. Download the free EPUB.
