Henry Turner Bailey arranges the story of Jesus, from the Annunciation and the Nativity through the ministry and parables, as a sequence of pictures by painters from Fra Angelico, Titian and Reni to Hofmann and Plockhorst. Each picture is paired with the Gospel verse it illustrates, chiefly from Luke, with brief notes on how the artists read the scene.
