Gathered from the Spectator of 1711 and 1712, these essays by Addison, Steele and Eustace Budgell follow Sir Roger de Coverley, a good-hearted, eccentric Worcestershire baronet and member of the Spectator Club. We see him at home among his servants and tenants at Coverley Hall, in church, out hunting and at the assizes, and later in London at the theatre, Vauxhall and Westminster Abbey.
