Writing from a quiet retreat he calls the silent isle, Benson sets down his thoughts in loose, unhurried sketches rather than one finished picture. He considers why the English trust statesmen and priests only when they deliver comfort, the place of beauty and intellect in national life, the habits of friends and the consolations of solitude.
Gentle, reflective prose from the author of the words to Land of Hope and Glory, ideal for slow evening reading. Download the free EPUB.
