Written to show that Greek literature has a living message for modern readers, this book takes the great authors one by one: Homer, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides, Aristophanes, Herodotus, Thucydides, Plato, Demosthenes and others, retelling plots and arguments, such as Euripides’ story of the madness of Heracles, with extracts in English.
