Published for the centenary of his birth, this volume gathers biographical notes and Olmsted’s own writings on the experiences that made him America’s first great landscape architect. He recalls childhood pleasure tours through New England, his reading and study, farming and travel, and the old books on scenery he later gave every pupil to read like Blackstone.
